Adult & Senior Eye Exams

Comprehensive Eye Exam for Adults and Seniors

At Clairhurst Eye Care, we offer a comprehensive assessment of your vision and eye health. Our examination aims to evaluate the health and function of your eyes and visual system, detect and diagnose any eye diseases or conditions that may affect you, and prevent or manage vision problems and other health issues that might affect your quality of life.

Importance of Eye Exams

It is important for adults and seniors to schedule an eye examination at least once every one to two years or more frequently if they have a family history of eye diseases, a chronic health condition, or notice any changes in their vision. Eye exams are essential for maintaining your vision and preventing vision loss.

Regular eye exams are especially important for this age group as the risk of developing eye problems increases. Some eye diseases may not have noticeable symptoms in the early stages but can cause irreversible vision loss if left untreated. A comprehensive eye examination is vital to preventive health care and should not be ignored or delayed.

What to Expect During a Comprehensive Eye Exam

Our comprehensive eye exam usually takes 45 minutes and includes several tests and procedures. These include:

  • Detailed case history
  • Review of medical history
  • Visual acuity and refraction tests to measure your vision and determine a prescription for glasses
  • Ocular alignment tests to evaluate the coordination of your eyes
  • Slit-lamp examination to examine the front part of your eyes
  • Tonometry tests to measure the pressure inside your eyes
  • Visual field screening to check for any areas of vision loss
  • Detailed retinal examination to examine the central and peripheral retina, macula, and optic nerve.

Clairhurst Eye Care uses advanced non-invasive technology, including Retinal Imaging and Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT), to examine the central and peripheral retina.

After the Eye Exam

After the examination, we will discuss the results with you and recommend eye care, such as glasses, contact lenses, medications, or referrals to other specialists if necessary. We will also advise you on protecting and maintaining your eye health and answer any questions.
